On 28 December 2024, the first DEM2 "New Uzbekistan" diesel trainset entered commercial service on the Tashkent–Urgench route. The formation was fully designed and manufactured at JSC TVSRZ facilities in Tashkent.

DEM2 is a 12-car diesel trainset for interregional routes. Maximum speed is 140 km/h with a capacity of 736 passengers. The train is equipped with modern climate control systems, USB charging ports and passenger information systems.

The creation of DEM2 was the result of years of work by TVZ's design bureau and the first fully domestic passenger diesel trainset project in Uzbekistan's history.

During the first months of service, the formation will operate on the Tashkent–Urgench route (approximately 1,100 km). The Tashkent–Nukus route is planned to open in 2025.
